The rainbow lights up the city.
Also known as Gay Pride, the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual) Pride March is the national anti-homophobic event that promotes equality and pride for people of the LGBT community. The Pride March came from the USA and gathers a significant crowd every year in France.
The march is built solely on volunteer work and donated funds, and attracts millions of marchers every year, taking place in Angers, Tours, Nantes, Lyon, Lille, Metz, Montpellier, Rennes, Toulouse, Strasbourg, Biarritz, Paris, Bordeaux and Marseille.
The parade is an opportunity for gay clubs, bars, radio stations and associations to make themselves known to the wider public.
A number of large French companies both in the private and the public sector - and even political parties - own floats so as to celebrate the right to equality in the workplace and in political circles.
Throughout the entire parade a fancy-dressed, boisterous crowd will be cheering, dancing and waving rainbow flags - the Pride March is a party about tolerance and open-mindedness, but remains a party nonetheless!
